Conservation Photography: The Power of Visual Stories

REGULAR SEMINAR
 IN BIODIVERSITY AND EVOLUTION

(The seminar will be held in Galician)

Conservation is an essentially interdisciplinary field that requires the participation of large and diverse teams. For example, this work aims to demonstrate that biology is fundamental to explaining numerous processes of cultural heritage deterioration. Understanding the effects of organisms will allow us to define the conditions for their control or eradication. All of this is a necessary requirement for designing effective conservation projects. This will be illustrated with the example of rock art, the professor's area of expertise.

Fernando Carrera Ramírez holds a degree in Geography and History, specialising in Prehistory (Universidad Complutense de Madrid, 1987), a diploma in Conservation and Restoration, specialising in Archaeology (Escuela Nacional de Conservación y Restauración de Bienes Culturales. Madrid, 1987) and a PhD in History (Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia, Madrid, 2005). Although he has retired, his teaching career has been at the Escuela Superior de Conservación e Restauración de Bens Culturais de Galicia, specifically in conservation of archaeological materials. He has also been part of teaching teams at various universities and currently teaches on the PhD programme in Cultural Heritage Protection at the University of Vigo, among others. His professional and scientific career has always been linked to the conservation of archaeological sites, particularly those with prehistoric art. Numerous research projects, publications and participation in conferences support this statement.
