CIBIO researcher Rui Faria ranked among the world’s top five scientists in speciation
News

Rui Faria, a researcher at CIBIO, has been ranked fourth worldwide in the field of speciation in the 2026 edition of the ScholarGPS Rankings of Scholars and Institutions, recognising the international impact of his research in evolutionary biology.
Rui Faria’s research focuses on the evolutionary genomics of adaptation and speciation, particularly the role of chromosomal rearrangements in adaptation and reproductive isolation. Using marine gastropods of the genus Littorina as main model, he investigates how changes in chromosome structure and genome architecture contribute to evolutionary divergence and the emergence of new species.
The ScholarGPS rankings assess researchers based on scientific productivity, citation impact, and research quality across scientific fields, disciplines, and specialised research topics.
