CIBIO-BIOPOLIS Researchers Among the World’s Most-Cited Scientists and Career-Impact Leaders

News

Five researchers from CIBIO-BIOPOLIS, the Research Centre in Biodiversity and Genetic Resources at the University of Porto, feature in the 2025 edition of the World’s Top 2% Scientists list, with five researchers also recognised for their career-long citation impact.

The latest edition of the World’s Top 2% Scientists list, published in October 2026, includes five CIBIO-BIOPOLIS researchers among the world’s most-cited scientists in 2025: Francisco Moreira, Manuel Lopes-Lima, Gonçalo Cardoso, Luís Ceríaco and Miguel Carretero.

The database also recognises five CIBIO-BIOPOLIS researchers for their career-long scientific impact: Francisco Moreira, David James Harris, Pedro Beja, Luís Ceríaco and Miguel Carretero. These researchers are featured in a separate list that assesses citation impact over the course of a scientific career, rather than focusing exclusively on citations received in a single year.

The World’s Top 2% Scientists lists are based on a publicly available database developed by researchers at Stanford University and published by Elsevier. Using data from Scopus, one of the world’s largest databases of scientific publications and citations, the analysis provides standardised indicators of research impact across scientific disciplines. The database covers 20 broad scientific fields and 174 subfields.

The complete datasets, including the indicators and methodology used to compile the lists, are available through the Elsevier Data Repository.
