The Biodiversity Gallery - Centro Ciência Viva, in Porto, hosted the launch of the book "O Caminho de Adis Abeba" on 11 June. Written by CIBIO researcher and University of Porto professor Jorge Rocha, the book offers readers an accessible exploration of human evolution, combining insights from genetics, anthropology, archaeology and evolutionary biology.

Written by CIBIO researcher and University of Porto professor Jorge Rocha, the book offers readers an accessible exploration of human evolution, combining insights from genetics, anthropology, archaeology and evolutionary biology.
The event brought together researchers, students, colleagues and members of the public to celebrate the publication of the author's first science communication book. The presentation was delivered by Nuno Ferrand, Director of CIBIO-BIOPOLIS and Full Professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto.
Published by Arte e Ciência, the book examines some of the defining characteristics of our species and the evolutionary processes that shaped them. Across 296 pages, Jorge Rocha guides readers through the scientific discoveries that have helped uncover the origins of modern humans and understand the biological and behavioural traits that distinguish us from other species.
Jorge Rocha is Professor of Genetics and Human Biology at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto and a researcher at CIBIO-BIOPOLIS. His scientific work has focused on the genetic and linguistic diversity of African populations, leading him to conduct research in countries including Angola, Namibia, Mozambique, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Cape Verde, and São Tomé and Príncipe.
